There is personal satisfaction in representing plaintiffs in lead paint litigation, Anne E. Joynt said, and it has become the focus of her practice.

“The clients I represent have been exposed to toxic lead in childhood, through no fault of their own, and as a result, have suffered cognitive defects,” Joynt said. “As lead paint poisoning often targets those in the community from a lower socio-economic background, many of my clients are very poor. It is my privilege to represent them, and at the positive conclusion of the case, I love being able to offer them some financial recompense that can be used to level the playing field, even if just by a small bit. It means a great deal to each client.”

Joynt has participated in the Upward Bound program, which encourages high school students who would be first-generation college students to seek higher education. She was a tutor/counselor and summer school teacher while at SUNY Geneseo (2002) and the University at Buffalo School of Law (2005). “I enjoyed my time with this program, and I believe it formed my basis for believing in the power of what good mentorship can mean.”

Since 2008, Joynt has been active in the mentoring program with her law school alumni association. “I have had frequent lunches and dinners with students, fielded frantic phone calls from them prior to their bar exams, and offered advice on good courses to consider taking while in school,” she said. “I have also connected them with other attorneys who practice in areas the students are interested in pursuing.”

Dennis Harlow, a junior partner at Lipsitz & Ponterio, LLC, said Joynt is a tough-minded litigator and thoughtful legal scholar. “Her mastery of the complexities of childhood lead exposure, a medically and legally complex practice area, has made her a recognized leader in her field,” he said.
