State police using social media

By: Daily Record Staff//November 27, 2012

The New York State Police are making the leap into social media, offering New Yorkers a chance to “like” the state police on Facebook and “follow” NYSP on Twitter.

“We are moving the state police into the 21st century,” Superintendent Joseph D’Amico said. “Facebook and Twitter give us a chance to directly communicate and interact with the people we serve across New York state. Not only will we be able to get important public safety information out quickly, but New Yorkers will also get to know more about the work our troopers do in their communities.”

On its official pages, the public can learn more about the state police, its specialty units and members. The state police will also be posting important public safety information in regards to arrests, closures, traffic safety tips and even information on how the public can help in investigations.

Find the official page on Facebook at www.facebook.com/nyspolice or on Twitter at @nyspolice.
