Years in current role: 15
What advice would you give someone starting an intellectual property practice right now?
Be willing to adapt to different forms of billing a client for services rendered, not just hourly fees. Consider tethering to a full-service firm that enables cross selling of work. While IP is largely recession proof, it provides a lot of opportunities for other work (Corporate, Labor and Employment, tax, etc.).
If you could practice one area of law that you haven’t practiced in your career, what would it be and why?
Probably entertainment law, which has always fascinated me. While there are a number of aspects of intellectual property (copyright, privacy rights) found there, there are also a number of other forms of law including (contract/labor and employment)
What is one personal goal you have for the next year?
A bit better balance between work and family, especially with a fourth grandchild due very, very soon!!
