Broome County judge resigns after state watchdog investigates incident

Triangle Town Justice John P. Orzel was formally charged by the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct for repeatedly poking a woman on the shoulder during an argument that he started.
Orzel started the argument in the courtroom with a clerk from the Broome County Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) who was operating a DMV mobile office in the courtroom, according to the Commission.
He also made snide and otherwise discourteous remarks to her before complaining about her to her supervisors.
Orzel, who is not an attorney, has served as a Triangle town justice since 2018. His current term would have expired on Dec. 31, 2025.
