What skills do you think are most crucial for new attorneys entering the field today?

Sound judgment, clear writing and the ability to distill complex issues into practical advice are essential. New attorneys must also be responsive, adaptable and willing to take ownership of their work. In today’s fast-moving environment, those who combine legal acumen with emotional intelligence and a client-first mindset will stand out.

What’s one misconception people often have about your area of law?

Many people think litigation is all about dramatic courtroom battles, but most cases are resolved through strategic planning, motion practice and negotiation. Litigation is rarely about theatrics — it’s about managing risk, understanding leverage and helping clients make smart business decisions under pressure. The best litigators know when to fight and when to find a path forward.

How does the Rochester community influence your work or professional philosophy?

Rochester’s legal and business communities value authenticity, professionalism and results over flash. That culture has shaped my approach — clients expect practical, timely solutions, not posturing. The collegiality among local attorneys also reinforces the importance of integrity and reputation. Practicing here reminds me that effective advocacy is rooted in trust, preparation and real relationships.
