What changes in the legal industry do you believe will have the biggest impact on clients over the next few years?

The increased use of AI and other technology will have a significant impact on clients. Used properly, these tools can improve efficiency and reduce costs, but they also create real risks if lawyers rely on them without careful review and judgment. Clients will benefit most from lawyers who use technology thoughtfully, while continuing to provide practical advice, strategic thinking, and the personal attention that technology cannot replace.

What is one challenge currently facing the legal profession that deserves more attention?

One challenge that deserves more attention is making sure that legal work remains both excellent and efficient. Clients understandably want value and predictability, and lawyers need to be clear about what work is being done, why it matters, and how it advances the client’s goals. That requires strong judgment, good communication and a willingness to be direct about strategy, budget and risk throughout the matter.

How do you balance legal expertise with client service and relationship-building?

I try to start by understanding the client’s business, goals and practical concerns, not just the legal issue in front of me. Strong legal analysis is important, but it has to be paired with clear communication, responsiveness and practical recommendations. I want clients to understand their options, the risks, and the reasoning behind my advice so they can make informed decisions and feel supported throughout the process.

How important is community involvement or pro bono work within your organization?

Community involvement and pro bono work are very important to me and to our firm. I have always believed that lawyers should be engaged in the community, whether through bar associations, mentoring, nonprofit work, or helping people who need access to legal services. It also makes us better lawyers because it keeps us connected to the people, businesses and institutions we serve.

What is one accomplishment — professional or personal — that you are especially proud of?

I am especially proud of being a founding partner of Adams Leclair LLP and helping build a firm that is focused on excellent legal work, practical client service, and a collaborative culture. I am also proud of my leadership in the legal community, including serving as President of GRAWA. Both experiences reflect what I value most professionally: doing meaningful work, supporting others and building lasting relationships.
