State police are reminding drivers, bicyclists and other users of New York’s roads to use caution when and riding this spring and summer, according to Maj. Donald L.X. DePass Jr.

Drivers should be alert for other users of the road including bicyclists, in-line skaters, pedestrians, motorcycles, farm equipment, animal-drawn vehicles and construction work zones. Watch for motorcycles and yield to them by not turning quickly in front of them.

Pedestrians, bicyclists and skaters are reminded to use hand signals for turns, wear a helmet, ride in the same direction as motorized traffic and wear light colored or reflective clothing. Parents can be held responsible for traffic safety violations committed by their minor children.

Information is available on the website at www.troopers.state.ny.us, or the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee website at www.safeny.com.
