Feds announce funds for Penn Yan Airport

Daily Record Staff//June 14, 2011//

U.S. Sen. Charles E. Schumer announced Tuesday that Penn Yan Airport in Yates County is set to receive $298,205 in U.S. funds for airport facility upgrades.

The grant will allow Penn Yan Airport to create a new helipad to replace a 12-year-old helipad that officials say is no longer suited for the growing number of medical flights in and out of the airport. The new helipad will allow patients who need medical care to be flown to Rochester and other regional hospitals in the safest way possible.

“This is great news for the passengers and patients that fly in and out of Penn Yan airport while en route to the region’s hospitals during medical emergencies,” said Schumer. “With this funding, the airport can make renovations that will ensure passenger safety and the smooth operation of the facility.”

The funding is part of the Airport Improvement Program, administered by the Federal Aviation Administration.
