Niagara Falls barrel survivors want a ride

The Associated Press//August 18, 2011//

NIAGARA FALLS — Two daredevils who each survived two trips over in barrels say they should be allowed to repeat their stunts if Nik Wallenda’s request to walk a tightrope over the famous cataracts is approved.

Steve Trotter and Dave Munday tell The Buffalo News that they support Wallenda’s effort to get the OK for a tightrope walk across the falls. The member of the Wallenda family of high-wire acts was in Niagara Falls earlier this month to discuss his idea with American and Canadian officials.

Wallenda has the support of tourism officials on both sides of the border. But Canada’s Niagara Parks Commission has the final say and the panel has a strict anti-stunting policy.

Trotter rode barrels over the falls in 1985 and ‘95. Munday pulled off the same stunt in ‘85 and ‘93.
