The New York State Commission on Judicial Nomination has extended the deadline for submitting applications for the current vacancy on the Court of Appeals, created by Nov. 6 death of Associate Judge Theodore T. Jones.
Applications for the vacancy, originally due Dec. 18, must now be submitted to the commission no later than Dec. 21. The extension is intended to ensure that the size and composition of the pool of applicants for the state’s highest court represents the broadest possible spectrum of qualified candidates and to give applicants additional time given the holiday season.
The commission will take a fresh look at all applications submitted for the vacancy, evaluating candidates who previously submitted applications for the vacancy on the court created as the result of Associate Judge Carmen B. Ciparick’s upcoming retirement, as well as considering all new applicants.
Applications may be downloaded from the commission’s website at www.nysegov.com/cjn/. They may be filed electronically by emailing them to [email protected], or otherwise submitted by mail to the Commission’s Counsel, Stephen P. Younger at 1133 Avenue of the Americas, New York, New York 10036-6710.
