Canandaigua resident John A. Schuppenhauer was re-appointed by the Canandaigua City Council Monday to a fourth six-year term as part-time City Court judge.

He presides over felony, misdemeanor, vehicle-and-traffic and city code violation cases, as well as civil matters.

“I am honored that the council has shown its confidence and trust in me by this further appointment,” Judge Schuppenhauer said.

Judge Schuppenhauer is also a partner in the firm of Chamberlain, D’Amanda, Oppenheimer & Greenfield LLP at 35 S. Main St., Canandaigua, and has been active in many civic organizations, having served as president of the board of the Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the boards of Sonnenberg Gardens and the Granger Homestead Society and president of the boards of the Canandaigua Kiwanis Club and Ontario ARC. He is currently president of NYSARC Inc., the nation’s largest not-for-profit organization serving people with intellectual and other disabilities.

“Community service has been an important and fulfilling part of my life,” Judge Schuppenhauer said.

He received his juris doctor, cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law and is marred to Elizabeth (Keeney) Schuppenhauer, an Ontario County employee. They have two grown children.
