Riley Kovacs was welcomed into the world Thursday by a New York state trooper and a volunteer firefighter when his mother went into labor while parked at the state police barracks in Boston, Erie County.

State police in Boston, Erie County, received notice at 1:48 p.m. from the Clarence barrack that a woman was about to deliver a baby in their parking lot.
Sgt. Vincent Lightcap and Sgt. Christopher Waiss went to the parking lot shortly before 2 p.m. where they found Misty M. Kovacs, 27, with her husband, Matthew Kovacs, who reported his wife’s water broke at their home and contractions were less than a minute apart.
The Patchin Volunteer Fire Department and Hamburg ambulance were immediately dispatched.
Kovacs pulled the car into the state police’s heated garage and Misty Kovacs was placed on blankets and towels on the floor as other state police members gathered supplies to prepare for the baby’s imminent arrival.
Patchin Volunteer Fireman Eric Baumgartner and Sgt. Waiss delivered the baby boy at 1:55 p.m., while Kovacs assisted his wife. Investigator Ryan Shanahan held the baby until Hamburg emergency medical technicians arrived.
The baby, Riley William Kovacs, weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces. He and his mother were taken to Mercy Hospital, where troopers report they were doing fine.
