Gary Band named editor of The Daily Record

Gary Band, a veteran journalist with broad experience in news publications across the Northeast, has joined The Daily Record as editor.

“I am honored and humbled to have this opportunity and will do everything I can to produce a paper worthy of the thriving legal, business and real estate sectors in Rochester,” Band said. “This is a great city that deserves quality coverage of these essential economic engines.”

As editor, Band is in charge of the overall editorial direction and content of the newspaper and its website.

“I am excited to welcome Gary to The Daily Record team.  He brings more than 15 years of experience working in reporting, editing and news management roles.  His knowledge and commitment to excellence will provide essential legal content to our readers,” said Daily Record Publisher Suzanne Fischer-Huettner.

A U.S. Navy veteran and 1998 graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, Band has worked as a reporter and editor at newspapers in Massachusetts, Vermont, New York and New Jersey. Most recently he was the managing editor of The Sparta Independent and The Township Journal, part of Straus News, based in Chester, Orange County.

In addition to his experience as an editor, Band has written more than 1,000 stories, columns and editorials on a wide range of subjects, including business, education, government and community development. He looks forward to meeting more members of the Rochester community and covering the important news Daily Record readers need to know.

Relocated here from Vermont in 2013, Band and his wife, a graduate of Vermont Law School, live in Brighton. A big fan of good conversation at area diner counters, he also likes cooking, a variety of craft beers, reading, walking the Erie Canal path, hiking in the Adirondacks and New England.
