The National Coalition Building Institute of Rochester, NY (NCBI Rochester) will close by year-end, following a vote by its board of directors.
“This decision was reached after many thoughtful discussions and much fact-finding,” said Joyce Strazzabosco, board president.
NCBI Rochester served the greater Rochester area for over 35 years with educational and leadership-building programs with the goal of eliminating racism and all forms of oppression.
While the programs were well received, many other providers began addressing these issues over the years.
“While the issues continue to need addressing, the diminishing ability of NCBI Rochester to muster the human and financial resources to address these difficult issues in its unique way has led the board to this decision,” Strazzabosco said.
The board will establish a fund to support educational programs whose purpose is to work toward eliminating discrimination, racism and other intergroup conflict to build more inclusive communities throughout the Greater Rochester area.
The option allows NCBI Rochester to continue to address its corporate mission even after it closes.
Information about the fund and how to apply for support from it will be announced before Dec. 31. Individuals and businesses that have supported NCBI Rochester in the past will be encouraged to continue to contribute to the fund.
