Phillips Lytle LLP has named Chad W. Flansburg, a partner with the firm, to succeed Jillian M. Dunbar as Rochester office leader.

“I’m excited for the opportunity. My goals are to keep delivering exceptional client services, invest in our people through mentoring and collaboration across our various practice areas, and staying engaged in the Rochester and Finger Lakes Region, and the business community that we support,” Flansburg said.
Dunbar will continue as a partner, focusing primarily on commercial lending and community development work regionally and nationally.
“Jill guided us through our transformative period moving into Innovative Square. She wanted to take more time on her practice development which led to the opportunity for me to become the office manager,’ Flansburg said.
“Jillian’s leadership was instrumental in advancing our Rochester strategy and successfully guiding the office through a transformative period. We’re grateful for her impact and excited to have her focus on building the firm’s multifaceted banking and financial services practice,’ said Phillips Lytle Managing Partner Douglas W. Dimitroff.
“Chad has the right mix of skills, expertise and regional knowledge to drive the firm’s growth and bolster our reputation as trusted advisers who deliver exceptional client service,” Dimitroff said.
The demands of the new role are not expected to interfere with Flansburg’s ability to continue serving his clients. He focuses mainly on construction and commercial litigation.
“I’m honored to serve as Rochester office leader and build on the strong foundation that my colleagues in Rochester have established for Phillips Lytle regionally,” Flansburg said.
“Our Rochester office is well positioned for continued success, with momentum rising behind our meaningful local client work and its impact in the region,” he said.
“From supporting major development projects to advising significant regional employers, our attorneys are always working closely with our clients to strengthen and grow the Rochester and Finger Lakes region,” he said.
Flansburg is an accomplished trial lawyer with extensive first-chair trial experience representing clients in complex commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts throughout the United States.
“I love litigation. I like the storytelling aspects of it. I like working with clients and building teams, building success, and the contours of litigation, and working with businesses and professionals and giving them advice,” he said.
Flansburg said his management style is similar to his approach to practicing law.
“What I try to do is listen and focus on the needs, or what the issue is, and develop a common sense practical solution to achieve success,” he said.
Phillips Lytle has offices throughout New York state and in Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Canada.
