The five-person intellectual property team from Murtha Cullina LLP has joined Barclay Damon’s New Haven, Connecticut, office.

The team, led by practice leader Tony Gangemi, will be added to the patents and prosecution, intellectual property litigation, trademarks, copyrights and licensing, and higher education practice areas at .

Gangemi brings a substantial book of business and a team with decades of experience in IP.

In addition to Gangemi, the group includes partner Ben White, Donna Lizotte, of counsel, patent agent Robert Kasten, and paralegal Liza Blair.

The move means Barclay Damon will add clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies and prominent colleges and universities to individuals in a variety of technology industries.

“This group’s extensive experience, especially in key technical areas, is impressive and will be a great addition to Barclay Damon’s existing IP team,” said Denis Sullivan, Barclay Damon’s intellectual property practice group leader.

“Barclay Damon has been open to opportunities in the Northeast. We have a nice footprint in the upstate market. We have nice sized offices in Boston and New York City and recently added Washington, D.C.,” Sullivan said.

“This lined up geographically. Almost as important was the fit with Tony and his group taking our patent group and adding talented attorneys and agents with significant university clients,” he said.

The team has educational and work experience outside the legal industry, which enhances their ability to relate to clients.

The recent addition of two additional associates in the intellectual property practice group — Celine Dorsainvil, in New York City, and Dhruthi Batchu, in Boston — further demonstrates the firm’s commitment to continued IP growth and client support.

Gangemi said he is excited by the move of his team and IP practice to Barclay Damon’s New Haven office.

“The firm’s existing investment and commitment to a large and high-performing intellectual property practice that is national in scope is a perfect fit for the clients my team has serviced for years,” he said.

“Joining Barclay Damon, joining a team of eight patent lawyers … not to mention also joining a team that’s got offices in New York City and Albany locations, where I have major clients, it really was a great fit, a perfect fit really,” Gangemi said.

For more than two decades, Barclay Damon has been pursuing a disciplined expansion strategy in major and smaller markets.

Recent deals include a combination with the 10-attorney business firm of Shapiro, Lifschitz & Schram, the addition of 20 lawyers from LeClairRyan, the addition of seven attorneys from Lacy Katzen LLP, a combination with the 14-attorney firm of Menter, Rudin & Trivelpiece PC, and the addition of the 11-attorney firm of Gilberti Stinziano Heintz & Smith PC.

In 2015, the 65-lawyer Damon Morey LLP combined with the 210-lawyer Hiscock & Barclay, resulting in the name change to Barclay Damon LLP.

Barclay Damon is a regional law firm with nearly 300 attorneys in Albany, Boston, Buffalo, New Haven, New York City, Rochester, Syracuse, Washington D.C., and Toronto.
