[USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect] — A Rochester woman who shot and seriously injured an acquaintance as she lay in bed last fall has been convicted in state Supreme Court.

Soraya Rodriguez, 43, of Rochester, was found guilty Wednesday, April 29, of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies, according to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.

The conviction stems from a Sept. 18, 2025, incident at a home on Finch Street in Rochester. Authorities said Rodriguez climbed through a window and shot a 25-year-old woman who was lying in her bed.

The victim, whose name was not released, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. She survived.

Police said the two women knew each other through a third party. Prosecutors alleged Rodriguez targeted the victim following a personal conflict.

Rodriguez is scheduled to be sentenced May 28 in state Supreme Court by Justice Victoria Argento.
