State re-accredits local ECD

Rochester Mayor Thomas S. Richards and Monroe County Deputy Executive Dan Delaus joined Emergency Communications Director John Merklinger today as he accepted an award for the city-county Emergency Communications Department.

The award signifies that the department was re-accredited by the New York State Sheriff’s Association. The ECD operates the 911 Communications Center.

The re-accreditation will last for five years and demonstrates that the ECD is in compliance with 70 standards of best practices for public safety communications. Assessors visited the center July 21 and 22 to examine all aspects of the ECD’s policies and procedures; administration, operations, training, direction, authority and organization.

“This accreditation by the NYS Sheriff’s Association is a testament to the fine work the staff at the Emergency Communications Department does every day,” said Merklinger.
