Cuomo wants to expand tax credits to small wineries, distillers

ALBANY  — New York wants to extend a to small , and  makers to encourage the industry to help the state economy.

In his State of the State address last week Cuomo announced a plan to overhaul the regulations governing online sales of craft alcohol to make it easier for producers to sell their products on the Internet.

The tax credit is now given to small craft breweries, and Cuomo wants to expand it to craft wineries, distilleries and makers of alcoholic cider.

Cuomo estimates that the tax credit would save these businesses $2 million a year, which expects would be reinvested.

Cuomo also wants to eliminate existing alcoholic beverage taxes that are imposed on free tastings.
