Ben Jacobs named editor of The Daily Record

A veteran journalist familiar with the Rochester community is the new editor of The Daily Record.

“I am passionate about both journalism and Rochester, and I am excited to take charge of The Daily Record and its long history of reporting on Rochester’s legal, real estate and business communities,” said Ben Jacobs, who started Monday in the new role.

As editor, Jacobs, who lives in Fairport, is in charge of the overall editorial direction and content of the newspaper and its website.

“I look forward to working with my team to provide our readers with an even more robust, local product that serves their needs and interests. I plan to uphold The Daily Record’s strong tradition while also moving it forward and exploring new opportunities to benefit our readers,” Jacobs said.

Most recently, Jacobs was planning editor at the Democrat and Chronicle.

“I am excited that Ben Jacobs has joined The Daily Record as editor.  Ben is an experienced editor and writer who will uphold the high standards of legal coverage while bringing innovation in print and online to ensure our readers have the essential news they need to practice law and run their businesses,” said Daily Record Publisher Suzanne Fischer-Huettner.

Jacobs earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy at the University of Rochester.

He spent two years at the Ithaca Journal as a sports reporter then two more years at the Tallahassee Democrat, in Tallahassee, Florida, as a sports reporter and copy editor.

Jacobs moved to the Democrat and Chronicle in 2008, initially as a copy editor. Gradually he took on more responsibility, such as overseeing other copy editors, and he ultimately became planning editor.

Jacobs, who has two daughters, is an avid runner who has completed several marathons.
