Of Counsel, Bond Schoeneck & KingYears in current role: 12
What do you enjoy most about your position?
Providing legal services to multi-generational families and businesses in the traditional trust and estate area while also representing institutions and individuals in litigated or contested trust and estate matters has always been the most satisfying to me professionally and personally. In addition, continuing in a leadership role in our firmwide T&E practice has given me the opportunity to work with many of our younger and extremely talented attorneys. This collaboration with the next generation of T&E leadership is most fulfilling. Hopefully they learn as much from me as I do from working with them.
What is one thing you hope to accomplish before the end of the year?
Timely resolution of client matters has always been a personal priority of mine. As with most busy attorneys I have my personal list of specific client matters that I would like to bring to a successful conclusion by year end.
What are the biggest current challenges in trusts and estates law?
T&E is an ever-evolving practice area. Keeping abreast of the changes in the law, development of new financial products and techniques and determining which are best suited to the specific needs of our clients has always been and will remain a significant challenge in our practice area. In addition, as a society we seem to have become more litigious and this is especially true in the T&E area. Anticipating and avoiding protracted litigation will continue to be one of the biggest challenges in T&E.
What do you enjoy most about practicing law in the Rochester area?
The civility and professional respect shown by the courts and fellow attorneys seem to me to make the Rochester area somewhat unique. I have and continue to work in other geographic areas of the state and find that this Rochester-area trait benefits not only attorneys but, more importantly, the needs of our clients.
