Managing Partner, The Cicero Law Firm LLP

Years in current role: 33

What is one thing you hope to accomplish before the end of the year?

We hope to hire another legal assistant who will become a long-term member of our close-knit work family. In a small firm like ours, any addition to the team changes the office dynamic, which makes us particularly cautious about making sure a new hire is a good fit.

What are the biggest current challenges in trusts and estates law?

Sheer demographics have presented challenges in managing our workload — the nation is aging, fewer young adults are choosing to attend law school, and even fewer lawyers have an interest in trusts and estates law. I firmly believe, however, that if more young lawyers give trusts and estates law a try, they will find it to be a tremendously satisfying area in which to practice.

What do you enjoy most about practicing law in the Rochester area?

Rochester is large enough to provide plentiful and sophisticated legal work, but small enough for us to enjoy collegial relationships with most of Rochester’s trusts and estates lawyers and other professional advisors who help serve our clients. I have always enjoyed working with other members of a client’s team of legal, tax, and financial advisors, and find that their skills and insight help make me a better lawyer.
