Boylan Code LLP

Years in current role: 38

What is your biggest professional goal for the rest of this year?

To pause and smell the roses.

What are your favorite aspects of the types of law you practice?

The people with whom you work in any area of law can be its most enjoyable aspect and, ironically, sometimes its least enjoyable aspect. Right now, it’s all good. I also like practicing in areas where I am in a small pool of experts.

What is your favorite time of year in the Rochester region and why?

Daylight savings time, because it’s still light out when I get out of work! Really, I like the summers best because our house has a lot of outdoor space (patio, porches etc.) that we only get to use when the weather is nice. That said, there are things I like about all seasons here, except for late winter/early spring, which in Rochester basically is the season of thawing mud.

What career do you think you would have if you weren’t a lawyer?

A writer. For several years during my legal career, I wrote an offbeat humor column for a friend’s newspaper under a nom de plume. After that I cowrote a screenplay that was produced into a feature length motion picture. Early in my career I was a weekend player in an established improv group in Houston; improv is a nerve-wracking form of extemporaneous writing that allows for no editing. If not that, then an exotic dancer but, since I don’t dance, I guess I’ll stick with writer.
