What skills do you think are most crucial for new attorneys entering the field today?

The crucial skill set for an attorney entering the field today differs little from the crucial skill set of an attorney entering the profession at any other point in history. The attorney must be able to think critically and communicate her/his thoughts clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

What’s one misconception people often have about your area of law?

Trusts and estates is truly a multidisciplinary area of the law. Whether preparing estate planning documents or administering an estate, a trusts and estates attorney routinely analyzes and resolves issues involving corporate law, estate and income tax law, commercial and residential real estate law, environmental liability, matrimonial law, guardianship law, intellectual property law, conflicts of law, choice of law, banking law and nonprofit law. The list is endless.

What’s your ideal way to spend a weekend in the Finger Lakes or Western New York?

I enjoy hiking, kayaking and gardening.
