NY town justice resigns while under investigation

Lee Town Justice Daniel L. Furney was being investigated by the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct for driving with a suspended license and invoking his judicial title for personal purposes in interactions with police.
In November, the Commission notified Furney that it was investigating a complaint alleging that he operated a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, and that he invoked his judicial title during encounters with police, once during a traffic stop and once in a parking lot.
Furney, who is not an attorney, served as a justice in Lee since 2010. His current term would have expired on Dec. 31, 2029.
