Rochester City School students and minority law students will benefit from a $15,000 grant from the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York.
The grant, awarded to the Foundation of the Monroe County Bar, will assist two of the organization’s initiatives.
The award-winning Lawyers for Learning program will receive $10,000 to assist its efforts at Adlai E. Stevenson School 29. Lawyers for Learning has a longstanding relationship with School 29, a K-7 elementary school, working for almost 20 years to assist close to 60 attorneys and professionals who volunteer to mentor the students. Lawyers for Learning also assists the school in providing equipment, classroom supplies, and a camp at the end of the school year.
The remaining $5,000 will be used to hire a first-year law student during a 10-week summer internship.
“This is an incredible gift to the Foundation, and we are delighted that the federal court chose to recognize these two outstanding programs of the Monroe County Bar,” said MCBA Executive Director Mary C. Loewenguth.
