No. 2 job at State Police goes to a woman

ALBANY — A will hold the No. 2 job at the for the first time.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says Monday that Patricia Groeber has been appointed first deputy superintendent at the State Police, making her the highest ranking woman in the division’s 98-year history.

Groeber joined the State Police in 1986 and two years ago was promoted to field commander, the third-highest position. She oversaw the operations of the uniformed officers, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the State Intelligence Center and the Office of Counter Terrorism.

As second-in-command under State Police Superintendent Joseph D’Amico, she will oversee the day-to-day operations of the entire State Police, including administrative and command functions.

Cuomo says Groeber is a “proven leader” who has the necessary experience and dedication for the job.
