What is one legal issue or trend you’re keeping a close eye on this year?
As the legal industry has been reshaped these last 3-5 years with remote work, we are being mindful of its impact on traditional career tracks and client relationships. The biggest challenge as we see it is balancing and integrating remote work into our clients’ needs and expectations while developing leadership roles, while also preserving strong connections to the communities we serve. Maintaining connectivity will redefine how lawyers build relationships and advance within their firms as well as their communities.
What skills do you think are most crucial for new attorneys entering the field today?
Modern attorneys must excel in communication across digital platforms. The shift from in-person meetings to virtual interactions demands an ability to build trust and foster collegial relationships despite physical separation. What I feel is most crucial for new experienced lawyers is their ability to adapt to these changes to effectively connect with clients, colleagues and the communities that rely on their guidance.
What’s one misconception people often have about your area of law?
People often assume a Workers’ Compensation claim is an entitlement statute like it was when first enacted, but now it is actually an eligibility statute which requires legal experience to understand the eligibility requirements. In reality, the process in a Workers’ Compensation claim is highly technical, like navigating a legal minefield where missteps can mean delayed or lost benefits. The data reveals having an experienced attorney in Workers’ Compensation Law can make all the difference to the outcome of the case — for us it is our objective to ensure injured workers understand their rights, secure the benefits they deserve, so they can focus on healing and getting their lives back on track.
How does the Rochester community influence your work or professional philosophy?
Rochester has always been a giving and supportive community, which inspires us to give back in any way we can. We were brought up by our parents to give back to the communities that have given so much to us, which is why we support organizations like Make-A-Wish Foundation, Hunter’s Hope Foundation, EquiCenter, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, Camp Good Days, Golisano Children’s Hospital, Bivona, and Autism Up, to name a few. Their vital services to our community have a profound impact on the wellbeing of the people of Rochester, aligning with our firm’s commitment to making a difference.
What’s your ideal way to spend a weekend in the Finger Lakes or Western New York?
My ideal weekend is spending time with family and friends, appreciating the beauty New York has to offer — playing golf, being on the boat or by a pool as well as experiencing an outdoor concert at one of our amazing local concert venues.
