Years in current role: over 20
What is one legal issue or trend you’re keeping a close eye on this year?
Since I work in the Community Development Lending space, I am keeping a close eye on any housing issues that may arise and any changes with respect to tax credits for affordable housing or other community development programs.
What skills do you think are most crucial for new attorneys entering the field today?
I think the same skills that we needed back when I entered the field: an ability to read comprehensively, to write clearly and persuasively and to advocate effectively.
What’s one misconception people often have about your area of law?
Not so much a misconception, but I think people are surprised by how much of our work is the result of public and private partnerships. In our community development transactions, we are working with private investors, financial institutions, for profit and/or nonprofit developers and sponsors, housing agencies, local municipalities and the state, all with different points of view, but with the same goal of providing affordable housing or other benefits to our community.
