What is one legal issue or trend you’re keeping a close eye on this year?

One trend I’ve noticed as managing partner of a law firm is the rising expectations of clients. The business of law moves faster than ever. Clients want live access, quick answers and steady updates. That push keeps us sharp, but it can also drain teams. Good service is not about saying yes to everything. We set clear ground rules, stay available when it counts, and keep our eyes on client goals.

What skills do you think are most crucial for new attorneys entering the field today?

Start with empathy; each file involves a person or a business that counts on you. Practice sound judgment to identify risks and provide clear advice. Continue learning; the rules are constantly evolving, and clients notice lawyers who stay current. Demonstrate initiative by taking on challenging assignments before they are requested. Track your time, yet remember your worth runs deeper than the meter.

What’s your ideal way to spend a weekend in the Finger Lakes or Western New York?

I spend most weekends during the summer at my home on Conesus Lake. It’s a place where I can slow down and spend time with my family. A weekend on the water, plus a burger and fries from the original Tom Wahl’s in Avon, is hard to beat. It’s hard to think of anything more ideal than that.
