Brighton gets funds for trail project

The town of Brighton has been awarded a $1.3 million grant for the development of the Highland Crossing Trail, in collaboration with the city of Rochester.

This grant is part of a statewide award of approximately $67 million for 63 bicycle, pedestrian and multi-use transportation enhancement projects that will encourage tourism, sustainability and economic development opportunities across the state.

The Highland Crossing Trail will extend from the Erie Canal Trail at the Town Park in Brighton, north to Elmwood Avenue, through Highland Park and along South Avenue and other city streets, to the Genesee River Trail, just north of the University of Rochester.

Construction is scheduled to begin this year.
